Despite the rain that sometimes came down in sheets, Duxbury’s veterans, their families and many from the community filled the First Parish Church on Memorial Day morning to remember those who died for freedom.
Due to the rain, the traditional parade with veterans, scouts and the Duxbury High School Marching Band was cancelled. But the scheduled service at First Parish Church went on during the rain and included the DHS choir, a soon-to-be DHS graduate, Duxbury American Legion Post 223 Chaplain Henry Reynolds and a speech from the 24th chief of U.S. Army Chaplains, Maj. Gen Paul Hurley.
“Our hearts are full of memories,” said Chaplain Reynolds, who is a veteran of WWII. He then asked for prayers for those who died in service as well as those who came back injured: “We come to remember,” he added.
